Food Sensitivities: What’s Causing Them

You’re here because you are interested in upping your chance of surviving to a ripe old age. Well, you can’t survive if you don’t know what you can – safely – eat.

If you suffer from food sensitivities – like I do – it can be extremely helpful to have a big picture view of what is going on in your gut.

There are whole classes of foods your body may be reacting to. It’s nearly impossible to test every food, one by one, so looking at these potential groups of problematic foods can save you a lot of time.

Here are some of the food groups that you might want to start testing to see if your gut health improves.

FODMAPS

Give me an F! Give me an O! Give me an D! Give me an M! Give me an A! Give me an P! What does it spell? Major pain in the gut, that’s what.

If you’ve ever been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), learning about foods that are high and low in FODMAPS may be your saving grace.

The “F” stands for Fermentable.

The “O” stands for Oligosaccharides.

The “D” stands for sdfs.

The “M” stands for sdfs.

The “A” stands for sedfs.

The “P” stands for Polyols.

Gluten Cross Reactivity

If you suffer from gluten intolerance of celiac disease, you know that gluten is bad for you. Unfortunately, your gut may be misidentifying several other foods as gluten. Apparently to our bodies, the molecules can kind of look alike.

  • potatoes
  • dairy
  • instant coffee
  • skdjfl
  • skdjf
  • sdkjflkj
  • lkdjflj

Histamine

  • fermented foods (kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi, wine, etc)

Salycate Allergies

If you have S allergies you may react to the following foods:

  • sdfs
  • dlkjfls
  • lskjflj

Ragweed Allergies

If you have ragweed allergies you may react to the following foods:

  • sdfsd
  • dlkjfls
  • lskjflj

Latex Allergies

If you have latex allergies you may react to the following foods:

  • bananas
  • dlkjfls
  • lskjflj

Oh my god! What is left?! Yeah. I know. (Heavy sigh.)

The good news is, if you can identify the food or foods that are hassling your gut, you can avoid them and live your life without abdominal pain ruling your life.

And you may be able to re-condition your gut to once again be able to enjoy your no-no foods.

Two options for doing so are the Autoimmune Protocol Diet and the GAPS diet.

Both of these involve eliminating large groups of foods for a certain amount of time and then gradually introducing ones from the problem list.
